Today’s Talent On The Rise is a man after our own heart! Pervis Taylor III is not only talented and handsome, but he believes his life’s purpose is to inspire young people and motivate others to lead a happy and healthy life. The Texas native is a Life Coach, Guest contributor to Vibe Vixen, Crossroads magazine and author of a fantastic Mini-Book called “Pervis Principles Volume One: A Daily Meditation Mini Book.” The book provides broad-based truths and principles, one for each day of the month, on which to meditate and live a more examined life.
The interesting thing about the book of “modern day proverbs” is that it is composed in the form of the most popular form of social media…Tweets! His daily tweets of inspiration to his friends and family have become his first book (Volume 2 and 3 to follow soon). Very clever, what better way to reach young people than to speak a language we understand!
While attending the University of Miami, on scholarship, he landed a coveted internship at Elektra Records where he worked in the Promotions and A&R department. Upon returning to UM Pervis partnered with fellow UM student, Lyor Cohen, former CEO of Island Def Jam Music Group to create a scholarship program between Lyor and the University of Miami. After graduating, Lyor offered him an opportunity to work for Def Jam as part of the marketing team. While there, he was instrumental in the success of artists such as Kanye West, DMX, Ashanti, Jay-Z and Ludacris.
While In New York, he also signed with Wilhelmina Modeling Agency and began a career in modeling and acting. He’s worked as a casting director and a screen-writer and he currently owns an Entertainment company called Right Angle Entertainment. But the most fulfilling part of Mr. Taylor’s journey is being a life coach(who recently mentored Steve Harveys youth group) and writing this book of inspiration.
“Happiness begins in the mind, if your mind is happy then so will your life be” Pervis says with a smile.
Although he is still young and has so much life to live, he is willing to share his triumphs and pitfalls with people, so that they know, they too can overcome. His vast experience in the Entertainment Industry has shown him that all that glitters ain’t gold and anything worth having is worth working hard for.
According to the examiner.com:
Pervis’ father died suddenly of cardiac arrest when he was 24. His biggest supporter, his father once told him, “Son, you’re going to write a book and it’s going to help so many young people.” It would be their last conversation.
Following his father’s death there were more tough times ahead during which Taylor says he hit a low-point physically, mentally and spiritually — a period he calls a “gumbo of chaos.”
Most of us have all had a bowl of that same gumbo!! But Pervis wants us to know that we all can get through it and come out stronger on the other side. Just grab a bottle of Mylanta, drink some bitters and soda and keep it moving!!
