The music world was all a buzz with excitement over the dream casting of Outkast’s Andre 3000 as rock legend Jimi Hendrix, but according to Inquisitor.com the film, titled All is By My Side, has already hit a snafu. While reports were eager to lock and load the biopic with filming to start in three weeks, placing Andre Benjamin, otherwise known as Andre 3000 for six weeks at Bray, Dun Laoghaire and Dublin for the film, sources close to the late great Jimi Hendrix are saying not so fast. According to the Wall-Street Journal, Hendrix’ family members are against the film ever coming to fruition if the creators use selected music, saying that they won’t allow the film to use any of the rocker’s original music, which is a huge problem for the production that’s heavily focused on his career.

A statement was released on behalf of the Jimi Hendrix estate saying,” [The Estate] has made it known many times in the past that no such film, were it to include original music or copyrights created by Jimi Hendrix, can be undertaken without its full participation.” However, the film isn’t doomed completely, as the estate Experience Hendrix isn’t against the actual making of a biopic, stating, “CEO Janie Hendrix, sister of Jimi Hendrix, and the EH board, have not ruled out a ‘biopic’ in the future, though producing partners would, out of necessity, have to involve the company from the inception of any such film project if it is to include original Jimi Hendrix music or compositions.”

Charles R. Cross who wrote the 2005 biography for Jimi Hendrix is no stranger to the complications involving creative works with the Hendrix estate telling Moviefone, “Since the day Jimi died his estate has been complicated, with three or four different owners over the years, multiple lawsuits, and millions spent fighting for his legacy. It is one of the messiest stories in music industry history.

But one day there will be a great movie of his life because it truly was legendary and over sized.” Stay tuned for more news on the developing biopic.
