MOOKIE!! ‘They Killed Radio Raheem!’ How many of you remember Spike Lee’s epic and controversial film, ‘Do The Right Thing? It introduced us to a young Rosie Perez, Giancarlo Esposito, Samuel L. Jackson, Martin Lawrence and many many more talented actors! This year marks the 24th Anniversary of the movie and Spike Lee and Entertainment Weekly decided to get the old gang together to pay homage to a great film, that started careers, but most importantly, started dialogue about race relations. Sadly, we feel the absence of the late and great Ossie Davis as we see his wife Ruby Dee, sitting on the stoop without him. We love that Spike Lee included that iconic couple in one of their last films together.
My good friend, Giancarlo Esposito played ‘Buggin Out’ and many other characters in School Daze, Malcom X, Mo’ Betta Blues and many others. He’s gone on to become an Emmy nominated actor for hit shows such as Breaking Bad and Revolution!
Ruby Dee has had an illustrious career and was nominated for an Oscar for her role in American Gangster opposite Denzel Washington.
Rosie Perez is one of the most respected Latina actresses. Her hard hitting dance moves in the beginning of this movie, got her the job as the choreographer for ‘In Living Color!’
Spike featured his beautiful and talented sister in this film as well as School Daze and Mo’ Better Blues.
Sam Jackson is the highest grossing actor OF ALL TIME. Period.
It’s great to see the fabulous cast back together again! Spike Lee is currently working on raising money for a new film, and putting together a new script for the modern version of School Daze!
