Are you ready to see the modern version of Spike Lee’s legendary film, School Daze? Yes, we may possibly see what ‘Doin The Butt’ looks like in 2014! The innovative director recently revealed that he has a script for a modern day follow up to the cult classic that introduced us to a very young Laurence Fishburne, Giancarlo Esposito, Tisha Campbell and yes..Spike Lee himself. Many young people, like myself, were inspired to go to college because of this movie. Many other people were also inspired to pledge a fraternity or sorority because of this movie. It brought up social issues like class differences, skin color (light skin vs. dark skin), good hair vs. bad hair, virginity, fitting in with your peers, backstabbing friends and challenging relationships. All of those issues are still relevant today, so it could definitely be interesting! What do you think?
According to the ConcreteLoop:
Raising money via Kickstarter isn’t the only thing on Spike Lee’s mind. In an interview with Black&Sexy TV, the director revealed his plan to make a follow-up movie to his 1988 film, School Daze.
The original film, which centered around colorism and hair issues amongst activist students and Greeks at a Historically Black College, will possibly have a sequel set 25 years later:
I have the script for School Daze, but what people have to understand is that it’s a contemporary version, so it’s the same school, Mission College, but 25 years later. So, hopefully I can get Laurence Fishburne, who played Dap, he would be the president of the school now. And we would deal with issues that surround Historically Black Colleges today. And some of it is the same from back in ’88 from the first one, but there’s a lot of new stuff. The pledging process, but also homophobia–that’s a big one and a big subject in this one. There’s still some class issues, still stuck with color and hair texture, but it’s what’s happening today.
