Sellebrity takes a personal look inside the lives of the celebrities that are constantly stalked by the paparazzi and the photographers that are responsible for the mayhem. The documentary about paparazzi and celebrity culture premiered at SXSW and is hitting the Nantucket Film Festival this weekend. Kevin Mazur’s look at the world of celebrity gossip gets help from Jennifer Aniston, Salma Hayek, Sarah Jessica Parker, Elton John, Kid Rock, Jennifer Lopez and Mark Anthony among others.
It’s amazing that there are no hard-core laws against paparazzi, especially in Los Angeles and New York, but the reason is simple, MONEY. There is too much money to be made by newspapers, magazines and gossip sites like TMZ. You know the government/law enforcement gets a piece of that pie. When one becomes a celebrity, being in the public eye and having your privacy invaded comes with the territiory, but to what extent? I’ve witnessed these camera men, jumping on the hoods of moving cars to get a shot of a hot celebrity. Their children are photographed, their vacations, their dates etc. It is beyond ridiculous, yet consumers continue to buy the magazines and the cylcle continues. Hopefully, this documentary will create a movement that stops this insanity. It should’ve ended with the death of Princess Diana.
