The new dramatic and fun musical Rock of Ages, debuts in theaters today. A few years ago I found myself in New York skeptically watching the broadway musical, Rock of Ages. Rock is not my favorite genre of music, but I was an eighties baby, so I do enjoy a little Guns N Roses or Van Halen every now and then. To my suprise, the musical wasn’t only good, it blew me away! The characters were compelling and the songs brought back great memories and had the entire audience singing. When I found out that it was being made into a motion picture, the first question I asked was, who did they cast? The answer: Tom Cruise, Russell Brand, Alec Baldwin, Catherine Zeta Jones, Julianne Hough, Diego Boneta, Paul Giamati, Bryan Cranston and Mary J. Blidge to name a few. Not Bad.
Set in 1987 Los Angeles, Drew and Sherrie are two young people chasing their dreams in the big city. When they meet, it’s love at first sight, though their romance will face a series of challenges. Cruise plays a “Rock Star,” that is engulfed by the lifestyle and the pitfalls of fame. It’s interesting to see his transformation and you get the feeling he’s been waiting his entire life to play this part. If you’re a dreamer, or a fan of music, you will enjoy this film.
