Oprah Winfrey sat down with pop sensation Rihanna in her hometown of Barbados for an episode of Oprah’s Next Chapter. Rihanna was more open and honest than anyone would have expected. At times showing raw emotion and shedding tears. We had a glimpse into the life of a young girl that is still trying to find herself and is still (obviously) very much in-love with her ex-boyfriend, Chris Brown.
When asked about that infamous night, Rihanna called that period in her life “embarrassing” and humiliating.”
“I am reminded by a lot of things. A lot of good memories we had. By the slightest things: hotel rooms, tour venues. Any little thing: music, songs. And I do miss him at times.”
About forgiving the love of her life:
“I have forgiven him. I was angry for a long time.”
“I think he was the love of my life. He was my first love.”
“I lost my best friend. Everything I knew switched … switched in a night and I couldn’t control that. So I had to deal with that, and that’s not easy for me to understand or interpret. It’s not easy to interpret on camera. Not with the world watching.”
Rihanna is a very young girl, who is still growing up and learning about life and love. We all remember how we felt about our first love. No one could tell you that it wouldn’t last forever and they weren’t the only one you’d ever love. It takes a long time to get over that. That’s why it’s called ‘live and learn.’ Her situation is pretty sad. None of us would like it if the world had an opinion about what we did when we were teenagers, or trying to find ourselves in our twenties. Thanks for being so open Rihanna, we wish you the best.
Next up for Rih is the MTV VMA’s airing live September 6th. And Rihanna just wrapped a few huge performances in Tokyo and Osaka for this weekend’s Summer Sonic festival.
