There wasn’t a dry eye in the room when Whitney Houston’s mom, Cissy Houston sang “Bridge over Troubled Waters.” But, it wasn’t all tears and sadness. Brandy came out and rocked the place moving and singing like her idol to “I’m Your Baby Tonight,” and “I Want To Dance With Somebody.” Monica belted out the Whitney ballad, “I Love The Lord,” it was eerie how much she embodied Whitney. Gary Houston paid tribute as well and the singing wrapped up with an energized performance of “I’m Every Woman,” by the slim and trim Chaka Khan. Mariah Carey opened the tribute with a story of how they met and the last time she was with her friend. The Prince of Egypt singer was moved to tears when speaking about Nippy. The cast of Waiting To Exhale, Angela Bassett, Lela Rocheon and Loretta Devine all spoke about Whitney as well. (It will be so hard to see the re-make of that film without her in it.) It was the best tribute done so far for the idol. The audience, full of celebrities like Beyonce, Nicki Minaj and Soulja Boy among others, were all moved by the tribute. There was a haunting moment when the camera captured Whitney’s sister-in -law and manager, Pat Houston holding her daughter tight. Great job BET. Whitney Houston will live on in our hearts forever.
