Oscar winner Meryl Streep donated a $10,000 check in Viola Davis’ name, to two of the foundations that fellow Oscar nominee Viola Davis supports. The checks came from Meryls’ Silver Mountain Foundation for the Arts. One $10,000 check went to the Upward Bound organization, Upward Bound is a federally funded program that provides college preparatory classes and educational grants to high school students from low-income communities. The other $10,000 check went to the Segue Charter School in honor of Viola who grew up in Central Falls, Rhode Island and has been supporting the school through her moral and financial help. Recently, the building that houses the school has been in trouble. It’s been scheduled to be sold for $1.2 million within the next 12-13 weeks, but hopefully Meryls donation and Violas support will help save it. Davis acknowledged the school while accepting a Best Actress award from the Screen Actors Guild earlier this year, telling the students “to dream big and dream fierce.” School founder Angelo Garcia said: “We’ve just been screaming from the rooftops. [Viola has] always kept us on her radar.” For information on how you can help save the schools building, email them at email@example.com Very classy ladies! Great job.
