Congratulations to the very handsome and talented Blake Jenner, winner of season 2 of The GLEE Project! The competition, which airs on Oxygen, gives 14 talented young people the chance to win a life changing 7 episode arc on GLEE, along with a recording contract and an opportunity to tour. After eleven weeks of competition, Ryan Murphy stuck to his guns and named only one winner of “The Glee Project” (Tue., 10 p.m. ET on Oxygen). Last season Murphy declared two winners, and even gave smaller parts to the third and fourth place finishers. This year, there would be no “everybody wins” final moment.
Instead, there were tears and heartache for both Ali Stroker and Aylin Bayramoglu. Both Ali and Aylin came with ready-made and compelling back stories, but it was Blake Jenner’s versatility and skills as an actor that made him the ultimate winner.
The 19-year-old from Florida performed Edwin McCain’s “I’ll Be” during Tuesday’s finale but it was his emotional “I’m the Guy” poem that he read immediately afterward that he thinks ultimately landed him the seven-episode arc on Fox’s Glee, besting fellow finalists Aylin Baramuglu and Ali Stroker. The poem delivered just what showrunner Ryan Murphy and the rest of the Glee Project mentors had wanted from him all along: to see what went beyond the boyish charm, strong acting and other Finn Hudson-esque attributes.
Blake was my pick from the begining and he truly deserves this chance. He is a talented actor, singer and dancer and an all-around good guy. The girls will love him and the guys will want to be him. He is a perfect replacement for the Finn character. We are so happy for him. Great choice Ryan Murphy!
