Tami Roman is the beautiful, yet often confrontational reality star from Basketball Wives Miami and now Basketball Wives LA. We first met Tami on The Real World, but after the show wrapped, she met and married NBA star Kenny Anderson. The two divorced after having two daughters and Tami moved on with her life. Although she is a very young looking 45 years old, she recently revealed that she is 6 weeks pregnant with her third child! Apparently she feel in love with a 28 year old man named Reggie Youngblood and he insisted that he wanted a baby. The couple appeared on Marriage Bootcamp Reality Stars and although Tami was adamant about not wanting anymore children, either she caved in…or it was a hot night! Tami made her announcement on the Love and Hip Hop Atlanta after show and in all honesty, it seemed a bit early, due to the fact that most women worry about mis-carriage during the first 3 months of pregnancy. But, now that the world knows, Tami spoke exclusively to our friend Necole Bitchie about why she decided to have a baby now and if she feels nervous about giving birth at 45 years old!
On Her Decision to Have a Child at This Point in Her Life
I am in a committed relationship with a younger man who has never had children. In an effort to compromise for the benefit of our relationship, and because I am in love with this person, I decided to have a child with him and I am happy I made the decision to do so.
Marriage Bootcamp helped us a great deal in all aspects, especially communication. It showed us that we do love each other and are in it for the long haul.
On Why She Announced the News So Early
I don’t know…wanting to share my excitement with the people who have shown me love. I hope I didn’t jinx myself. I hope and pray that will not be the case.
On If Her Childbirth At This Age Concerns Her
I’m not going to act like I’m not afraid. Deciding to have a child at the age of 45 is very risky and when I first found out that I was definitely pregnant I went through a lot of emotions; fear, excitement, anxiety and stress. I find resolve in knowing that the person I am having this child with absolutely adores me and wants to build a family with me so I’m excited about the possibility of that.
I think all babies are miracles! As it pertains to Halle, I looked at her as inspiration and said she did it, Alyssa Milano did it, Gwen Stefani did it, Julianna Margolis did it… Why not me? People put more emphasis on my age when this is not new, other women have done it and received nothing but congratulations, [so] not sure why my announcement was viewed so negatively.
On if She Had Issues with Conception
Surprisingly, I have always been very fertile. I didn’t really feel the anticipation that other women experience with regard to attempting to have a child. I didn’t have fertility treatments or freeze my eggs. It was the grace of God.
On the Reaction From Her Family When She Told them the News
My daughters are very happy and excited about having a sibling. They’ve wanted one for awhile, but I wasn’t interested in crossing that bridge in my previous relationships. They will be amazing big sisters and BABY SITTERS! [laughs]
I’m happy for Tammy and any other woman that wants to wait later in life to have children. I just hope that she genuinely did it for herself and her ability to give that child a loving home, and not for the sake of man. Because unfortunately, relationships come and go, but kids are forever!
