HBO Get’s It Right With NEWSROOM

2.1 Million People tuned in to HBO last night to the premiere of the Aaron Sorkin created show, NEWSROOM. I was one of them.  As usual HBO got it right.  This fast paced, drama had all of the elements of a great HBO Award winning original show: great writing, amazing actors and originality.  While there was a lot of dialougue in the first episode, you left with a clear understanding of who each character was and you either loved them, hated them, rooted for them or found yourself intrigued enough to tune in next week.  It is refreshing and real, which is to be expected from award winning writer Aaron Sorkin.  Yes, HBO, Yes!

From the mind of Aaron Sorkin, creator of The West Wing and screenwriter of The Social Network and Moneyball,  comes The Newsroom,  a behind-the-scenes look at the people who make a nightly cable-news program. Focusing on a network anchor (played by Jeff Daniels), his new executive producer (Emily Mortimer), the newsroom staff (John Gallagher, Jr., Alison Pill, Thomas Sadoski, Olivia Munn, Dev Patel) and their boss (Sam Waterston), the series tracks their quixotic mission to do the news well in the face of corporate and commercial obstacles-not to mention their own personal entanglements.

Missed it last night. Looks like a great idea for a show. I hope Americans watch and learn something about themselves.
