The Westbrooks new reality show premieres tonight on BET and I have the inside scoop on the first family of social media. During their event for the premiere at the SLS Hotel in Beverly, Hills, I caught up with two of the lovely sisters, Brooke Lauren Westbrooks and Morgan Westbrooks. In addition to talking about their clothing line (B Lauren) and Morgan’s upcoming debut rap album, the ladies gave me the tea on this upcoming season and a little insight into their personal lives.
It’s important for anyone that looks up to reality stars and celebrities, to realize that they are human. They experience many of the same challenges that we do. Heartbreak, low self esteem, insecurities etc. Both Morgan and Brooke were very open in expressing that although they have become famous for being beautiful and have legions of fans on social media that make flattering comments every day, they still struggle with their self esteem and loving themselves. And what is at the center of many of these issues? Their relationships with men.
Brooke, What will we see this season regarding your relationship?
“Me and my kids father, have been together off and on for about 15 years. So, you’ll see a lot of the ins and the outs and the ups and the downs and the smiles and the frowns. And how they feel about him and that whole journey. It’s a very nervous feeling. “
“It’s rough. I remember in high school seeing them. I remember being in her room and she sneaking on the phone talking to him. So, he’s been around for so long. So, you’re just kind of getting like, when you’ve been with somebody for so long, you guys get that part. You haven’t really seen everything. It’s been rough, but at the end of the day, that’s our brother, so. “
Have your relationships affected your self esteem?
“Mine does a lot. I’m very sensitive. So, it affects me all the way, 95%. “
“I’m different because, I’ve been single for a year, and that’s because I’ve had issues with self esteem. I’ve let a man tear me down. So, I kinda took a year to focus on myself. Now, you’ll be able to see me transition. I’m standing firm. I’ve got my sh*t together. Alright, now I can go find a guy, or I’ll wait for him to come to me.”
What’s your greatest insecurity and how did you overcome it and learn to love yourself?
“I’m still trying to go through that. I’m not going to lie. I’m still battling that. I’m not going to lie. I haven’t overcome that yet. Even at the age of, I’m about to be 28, I’m still going through that. “
“Honestly, I’ve been working a lot on myself. So, that question is hard because I’ve been standing pretty firm. I got a lot of God in me right now and he kind of takes that away. That insecurity, so I’m standing strong right now being that I had that time [to be by herself].”
Love them for being so open. So many of us search for validation in a relationship. It’s a mistake. Trust me. I’ve been there. Once you truly learn to love yourself, you will refuse to put up with anything less than what you deserve. I wish both of these lovely ladies the best with their journey and I look forward to watching what happens this season on The Westbrooks!
