Kelly Rowland is having an incredible year. With the release of the new Destiny’s Child CD Love Songs, performing during the halftime show at the Superbowl with her group mates Beyonce’ and Michelle Williams and hosting the red carpet at the Oscars, the pop star has a lot to be proud of.
Cherise Nicole (CNikky) and our associated EURweb spoke to Ms. Kelly during the Essence Black Women In Hollywood luncheon at the Beverly Hills Hotel. We spoke to Kelly about her worst break-up and what she did to overcome them, her insecurities, being a beautiful brown girl and her thoughts on Beyonce’s Life Is But A Dream documentary.
When we asked her what advice she would give herself in a bad relationship scenario:
“Walk Away! You know when to walk into a space and you know when to walk out. I would tell myself to walk away, and not be afraid of what’s coming up next, because the coming up next situation is better.”
She told us about her biggest insecurity:
“I went through a period where I didn’t embrace my chocolatyness…I don’t know if that’s a word, but I didn’t embrace my chocolate lifestyle, just being a chocolate lovely brown skinned girl and being proud of it. And I remember, Tina Knowles, B’s mom, I remember being out in the sun and trying to shield myself from the sun and she said Are you crazy? She said you are absolutely gorgeous and she told me how beautiful I was and how rare chocolate is and how gorgeous the skin is and all of this stuff. I was just like…Yeah! Like a light went off!”
When asked about the part of Beyonce’s documentary, when Kelly, Solange & Beyonce were singing ‘Love Fool’ to the camera:
“We did that a lot and Love Fool was one of our favorite songs. I remember my first car was a red BMW like the one from 90210, like one of the girls had. We would put my top back and we would be just singing and wail outside the car and have a good time and I’m so happy that people got a chance to see that. That’s just us being girls!”
