For most artist, hearing your song on the radio for the first time is something you dream about from the time you realize you want to be a singer. Knowing that the whole city, state, country and eventually the world can hear your music is a dream come true. During the red carpet premiere of R&B Divas: L.A., Cherise Nicole (CNikky) and our associates at CocoaFab asked our favorite Divas, Kelly Price, Dawn Robinson, Michel’le, Chante Moore and Nicci Gilbert, to re-visit the moment when they heard their song on the radio for the first time. Needless to say, it was a moment they will never forget.
“Girl I was driving down the highway and I had to keep myself from crashing into the median. I was driving on the Southern State Pkwy, the Eastbound side, in New York, cause I was on my way home. And the song came on the radio and the radio was actually kind of low. So I’m kind of sitting there and I’m riding and I’m humming along and I’m saying ‘Why am I singing my song?’ and I’m going ‘Oh! Cause It’s on the radio!’ So, I’m shaking and I’m turning it up and I heard ‘She was a friend of mine!’ and I’m like ‘AAAHHHHHH!’ and the person in the car next to me was like, is she crazy? Because there was no face attached to the song. We went months and months and months and it was just a song on the radio. So, it wasn’t even that somebody looked over and said, ‘Oh that’s her!’ They were like, Oh she’s crazy! What is she doing? And my car was swerving and I’m like ‘Oh my God, Oh my God!’ That is literally what happened to me the first time I heard my song on the radio.”
