Last night, one of my favorite power couples, Jay-Z and Beyonce raised over $4 million dollars for the Obama campaign by hosting a fundraiser dinner at Jay-z’s 40/40 Club. The event cost $40,000 a plate and wealthy patrons were happy to pay for an intimate evening with Jay, Beyonce and President Obama. (There were only 40 guests). A few Obama supporters who wanted to go but didn’t have that type of money, received an email last week from Beyonce offering them a chance to attend if they donated just $9 bucks to the Obama campaign by midnight. The lucky guests snapped pictures with the superstars and posted them on the internet this morning.
While guests enjoyed a nice dinner and bottles of Ace of Spades champagne ($800 per bottle), the President applauded Beyonce for being a role model to his daughters while joking about the things he has in common with Jay-z:
Beyoncé couldn’t be a better role model for our daughters because she carries herself with such class and poise and has so much talent. And Jay-Z now knows what my life is like. (Laughter.) We both have daughters, and our wives are more popular than we are. So we’ve got a little bond there. It’s hard, but it’s okay.
