Being Mary Jane Episode 6: Re-Cap & Insights “It’s Over!”
I don’t know if I should be sad or rejoice? But, it looks like the steamy and forbidden relationship with Andre is officially over! Last night’s episode was one of creator, Mara Brok Akil’s finest! We witnessed the demise of the turbulent and passionate relationship between Mary Jane and Andre. Even though, we as viewers know it was always wrong, we fell in love with Andre (Omari Hardwick) and we can’t help but feel a little torn over him going back to his wife.
When the episode begins, MJ prepares a special candle light dinner for her and Andre, but things go south when he accuses her of sleeping with David (after his friend showed him a picture of MJ and David dancing at her parents gala. They have an intense argument where he reminds her that he has turned his life upside down to be with her and she reminds him that he messed things up by lying to her about being married and his issues are his own. She then literally pushes him away and he speeds off in the car.
Andre returns home the next morning, only to find MJ’s youngest brother frantically knocking on her door. He is running from the police, who raided his friends house while he was there to buy and distribute weed. He snuck out the bathroom window and ran to MJ for help. Andre agrees to help him out by speaking to his friend at the police station.
After agreeing to help her brother and Andre reminding her that he loves her and all couples fight, she gives him a key to her house.
Andre goes to the police station to help David out and he is able to get him out of trouble. Unfortunately, David is less than appreciative and despite warnings from Andre and MJ to leave that life alone and concentrate on school, he is clearly not going to listen.
Andre goes back to his wife’s home to sit down and tell their kids that they are divorcing. But, when he gets there, he can’t bring himself to do it. So, he goes back to MJ’s house, only to find her in sexy lingerie, waiting to thank him…in many ways!
At work, Kara’s personal life is falling apart. The divorced mom of two is obsessed with her career and her time with her children has suffered drastically. Her two young sons and their father, meet with her to tell her that they want to live with their dad full time. They feel neglected and she feels terrible. She breaks down talking to MJ and confesses that she doesn’t want to give up her job to be available to spend more time with her kids and her ex-husband is a better parent. She doesn’t understand why she has to decide between being a god mom and having a successful career.
Back at MJ’s parents house, her older brother tells their dad that he is moving out. He states that he is a 42 year old man sleeping on his parents pull out couch and he will not be subjecting to peeing in a cup for a drug test once a week, just to prove he is clean. (Which probably means he is back on drugs).
His very pregnant daughter has decided to get her tubes tied. The 19 year old is about to be a mother of 2 and she doesn’t want to risk getting pregnant ever again! She and MJ get into an argument over her making such a drastic decision at such a young age. She points out that MJ is judging her, when the truth is MJ is not happy with her own life. No husband and No kids.
After that reality check from her niece, MJ confides in her mom for the the first time about her relationship with a very married Andre. Her mom advises her to “Cry about it tonight, and fix it in the morning.” Loved that advice. After MJ’s shocking confession, her mother ask her father if he is having an affair with the woman from the gala. He reminds her that he will never leave her side and how much he loves only her. Then, they make love, for the first time in a long time.
When MJ gets home, she has THE TALK with Andre. She tells him that they just don’t fit and her doesn’t love her. She tells him that she in unraveling and he needs to go home to his wife and kids. He tells her that she is constantly confusing him with all of the make-up, break-up and making love. She admits that she is still trying to figure out her feelings with David, just like he is trying to work through his feelings with Avery. As usual, their argument leads to hot sex. But, this time she stops in the middle of passion to tell him it’s really over. He moves his things out the next day and leaves her a post-it note saying, “Goof Luck Unraveling.” Damn.
